Nalanda Universuty was an ancient university during the fifth century BC to 12th century AD time span. The archeological site has ruins of six temples, 11 monasteries, and a Stupa known as Sariputra Stupa, which was built by Ashoka.
"It is interesting to note that over the centuries, different architectural styles have fused at places –as is evident from the monuments—as empires have emerged and collapsed and invaders have come and gone, leaving the stamp of their varied cultures behind. The oldest remains at Nalanda take it as far back as 1500 BC."
The Nalanda Archeological Museum has an amazing collection of exquisite bronze sculptors of Pala dynasty dating back to 9th -10th centuries.
